There were at least six weather related accidents in the city between Monday, Feb. 10 and Tuesday, Feb. 11, keeping Anna officers on the go, according to Anna Police Sgt. Jeff Caponera. Among the fender benders two were more serious. On Monday night a driver on Highway 5 rolled his vehicle, escaping with minor injuries. On Tuesday morning a driver slid off Highway 5 and hit a tree. Both the driver and her two children were transported to the hospital.
On Monday, Feb. 10, officers investigated a burglary of a home under construction in the 100 block of Oriole where a hot water tank was taken.
“With the increase in home construction we are also seeing an increase in burglaries of homes under construction,” said Caponera. “If you see anything suspicious, especially someone carrying items out of the home, call us.”
The Anna police department phone number is 972-924-2848.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, officers received a report of a vehicle burglary in the 100 block of Hilltop. Items were taken from the victim’s unlocked vehicle which was parked in the driveway.
Also on Saturday, officers conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 75. During the course of the investigation one-and-a-half pounds of marijuana was found, as well as an illegal firearm. Denario Boykins from Muskogee, Okla. was arrested and “will also be facing other charges due to his criminal record,” said Caponera. “We will be filing federal charges due to the weapon.”
