October is designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a fact driven home by the plethora of pink clothing and ribbons seemingly everywhere. From the National Football League to schools and business across the country, people, organizations and businesses are driving home the message.
Count First National Bank of Trenton in Melissa among that group. As they have done in the past, event organizers at the bank have been busy whipping up a slew of activities to benefit this important cause. According to organizer Teresa Wilmering, it will be another busy October on behalf of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
— the annual bake sale and gourmet coffee bar on Friday, Oct. 4
— 2nd Annual Car Show and vendor fair on Saturday, Oct. 12. The cars will be provided by members of Morning Maniacs Car Club. Included will be free toenail clippings for pets provided by Pampered Pets, a pet costume and talent contest and children’s activities.
— the annual chili cook-off on Friday, Oct. 18
— Carter BloodCare blood drive on Friday, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
— annual safe house for local children to trick-or-treat at (held in the bank lobby) on Thursday, Oct. 31. Kids can trick-or-treat from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with treats and punch provided for the whole family. There will also be an employee costume contest and visitors can vote for their favorite costume.
— silent auction on Friday, Nov. 1
In addition, First National Bank of Trenton will sell “pink links” for $1 each on which customers can write their name or a loved one’s name on a link and literally become a part of the link to get rid of breast cancer. The bank will also host sales of breast cancer merchandise throughout the month of October. Proceeds go to benefit BCRF, of which 91 cents of every dollar is directed toward breast cancer research and awareness programs.
First National Bank of Trenton is located at 1218 Sam Rayburn Highway in Melissa.
