If you noticed a greater than normal number of red shirts around town on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26, you no doubt witnessed volunteerism in action.
The Great Days of Service volunteers were out in force over the weekend, giving up their time to help others in the community who were in need. The Great Days of Service committee put out a big “thank you” to all the sponsors and volunteers who made this year’s Van Alstyne Great Days of Service an unqualified success. Without those monitory contributions, donations and volunteered time, this event would not have been possible. Great Days of Service was able to complete 35 projects with approximately 120 volunteers for this years event. This years Gold Level sponsors were Lone Star Roofing of Texas, GCEC, Texas Star Bank and Landmark Bank; the Silver Level sponsor was Benton-Luttrell-Brown; Bronze Level sponsors were Diamonds Grocery, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 376, Sheep Boutique Internet Marketing and Pamela S. Egner DDS Family Dentistry.
The host church for the event — where everyone met and organized — was the First Christian Church in Van Alstyne. The accommodations were perfect and the helpers were plentiful.
“So many people came out to help. It is so wonderful to see a community working together to help others in need,” said GDOS Co-Chair Theresa Auch. “It has been a beautiful blessing to have Great Days of Service in Van Alstyne and to see the hand of God at work. We can’t wait until next year!”
