State Farm Insurance awarded $1,000 to Howe High School student Kristen Marcelle Ross for being named as one of 50 State Farm Texas Scholar Award recipients for the 2012-13 school year. Ross was given awarded at an assembly in the high school cafeteria on Wednesday morning .

For the 12th consecutive year, the Texas agents of State Farm Insurance are sponsoring the Texas Scholar Award (TSA) Program which is a two-tiered program. From a field of 1,528 nominations, 50 Texas Scholars were selected, each receiving a $1,000 scholarship. All recipients were then invited to compete for an opportunity to receive one of the four larger scholarships – three awards of $5,000 and one award in the amount of $10,000 (awards were announced on May 1, 2013). In all, State Farm will award a total of $75,000 in scholarships to high school seniors across the state.
