The “Pride of Howe” High School Marching Band qualified to compete in the UIL State Marching Contest to be held in San Antonio on Nov. 4. it will mark a return to the top for the band.
To get to San Antonio, qualifying bands were selected from the Area contest in Denton on Oct. 26. Five Grayson County band made the finals (Howe, Whitesboro, Van Alstyne, Gunter and Tom Bean.) However, finals were canceled due to bad weather. The top four marching bands from the first round of competition earned spots to attend the State competiton — Howe, Van Alstyne, Whitesboro and Holliday.
This is not the first time the Howe Marching Band will perform in front of state judges. According to HHS Band Director Angie Cavender Liss, Howe has been to state 20 times and won three titles in 1980, 1995 and 1997.
