The Van Alstyne Culture Club met in Benton Hall at the First United Methodist Church on May 8 for our traditional closing of the year luncheon. Hostess was Nelda Partin and assisting her were Ora Maye Botsford, Jeanne Shearer and Gretchen Renne. Members brought tasty dishes and added recipes to our cookbook.
President Susan Berryhill turned the meeting over to the Scholarship Committee. Laura Cooper introduced us to the outstanding young ladies receiving our $5000 scholarships for 2014: Savannah Hood and Annie McGinnis. Also in attendance were their mothers, Donna Hood and Laurie McGinnis. The girls were presented certificates, and the scholarship will be sent to the college of their choosing. We’re so proud of these beautiful and smart graduates. They have been very busy during their high school years and they have bright futures. Congratulations!
President Berryhill conducted our business meeting after the young ladies returned to their classes. She personally thanked her officers who had been serving for the past two years. We also thanked President Berryhill for her leadership and wonderful guidance over the past two years.
The meeting was handed over to Nelda Partin who will follow as president. She introduced the new officers, 1st vice-presidents Martha Hogan and Melba Smith, 2nd vice-president Letha Tate, recording secretary Laura Cooper, treasurer, Suzanne Exley, parliamentarian Nannette Edwards, reporter, Gretchen Renne and historian Janet Cooley.
Members are on their way to looking for relaxation and traveling in the summer. See you in September.
