An alleged drunk driver made afternoon traffic on southbound U.S. Highway 75 a problem for some on Nov. 25.
Van Alstyne police and fire personnel responded to an auto vehicle accident on SB 75 just south of County Line Rd. at approximately 4:54 p.m. A car was resting in the median facing the wrong way, reporting that another driver had made contact with him and sent him off the road. VAPD Chief Tim Barnes reported that the cabling in the median kept the car from going into northbound traffic.
The driver who made contact, driving a GMC SUV, proceeded into Anna and got off at the 455 exit. The driver of the GMC then lost control at the 455 intersection and left the roadway and drove off into a deep culvert tail-end first. Anna police responded at this point and arrested the driver for driving while intoxicated.
The driver, who was cited by APD for DWI, is an Anna resident whose name is being withheld until he can be served for failure to provide information at the scene of an accident by Van Alstyne police.
There were no injuries reported at either scene.
VAPD responded to 118 calls for service over the seven-day reporting period.
