Van Alstyne Scouting Hosts Second Annual Car Show

The Friends of Van Alstyne Scouting is finalizing plans for its second annual Car Show and Swap Meet, set for Saturday, June 1, near the new Scout Hut – 183 Grays Trail in Van Alstyne (adjacent to the baseball field near the city’s North Park.)

The event will feature cars ranging from the 1920s to newer models, as well as low-riders, motorcycles and other special groups. Twenty-eight classes will be judged, with three awards per class, plus six special awards including “Best of Show” and “Scout’s Choice.” Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 150 participants. Registration is $20 and can be done in advance or on the day of the show.

In addition to the car show, vendors are invited out to sell their wares — craft items, antiques, festival foods, car accessories, etc. Ten-by-ten booths can be rented for $35, in advance or the day of the show. Food will be available for purchase onsite.

Events get under way with registration at 8 a.m. that day. Cars will be judged at 11:30 a.m. and awards presented at 2 p.m., with the fun lasting throughout the afternoon. A special sponsor of the event is Texoma radio station “Mad Rock 102.5,” for which the Friends of Van Alstyne Scouting wants to express its appreciation.

All proceeds from the event will go toward utilities and upkeep for the newly-renovated Scout Hut, at which Troop 44 recently hosted its 100th anniversary celebration. The facility is for use by all local scouting groups, including Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Venture Crews. Van Alstyne is unique among the nation in boasting such a scouting complex, complete with the Scouting Museum dedicated to preserving the important history of scouting in the region. The museum was also dedicated and opened to the public at Troop 44’s 100th anniversary celebration, and will be open for tours throughout the day of the Car Show.

In case of inclement weather, the show will be postponed a week, to the following Saturday, June 8. For more information or to register, please contact Rick Mustard at 214-773-5567 or via email at rickmust@gmail.com.
