Changes are coming to the Van Alstyne Public Library. As you all know, financial times are tough. At this time, the proposed budget for the library department of the City of Van Alstyne reflects a decrease of approximately $4,300 from the current fiscal year budget. Should this proposed budget pass with no further changes the library’s operating hours will change to the following beginning October 1:
Monday through Wednesday 10:00am – 6:00pm
Thursday 12:00pm – 6:00pm
Saturday 10:00am – 2:00pm
The good news is that none of this will affect our regular programming. We will continue to have weekly story hours for elementary aged children on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. and preschoolers on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Teen Council will continue to meet at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays. If you are registered to be a part of our Spanish-for-English-Speakers class on Thursday nights, this group will continue to meet through October 24 as advertised.
Calling all Tweens: If you are 10 to 12 years old you can be a part of our upcoming Tween Book Club. Okay, we know that’s a lousy name so we’re going to let you vote on a new name for your group at the first meeting. The group will meet for six weeks on Thursdays at 4 p.m. beginning October 3. Then we’ll take a break for the holidays, pick a new book, and reconvene in January. We’re still deciding what book to enjoy for this first series of gatherings. If you have a good idea for a book choice, feel free to call Miss Karen at 903-482-5991 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Friends of the Library annual book sale is coming up September 26-28. Check your e-newsletter from VAISD for a coupon for a free book. If you are age 13 or older and want some community service hours the Friends could use your help, starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, to set up for the sale. Contact Tracy at 903-482-5991 to volunteer.
Teen Council has a very busy schedule over the next couple of months. Here are some of the things you can look forward to happening. If you are 13-19 years old come by the library to find out how you can get involved with Teen Council.
