History and a Movie at the Library

Two great events are coming up!

First is the “Catching Fire” movie release party. Teen Council, led by Judy Kimzey, is planning a fun night all “Hunger Games” related as this second movie based on the trilogy of books by Suzanne Collins, is scheduled to hit theaters this month. The party here will be November 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All ages are invited but children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the evening.

Then November 23 join us to hear Texas State Historian Bill O’Neal speak about his experiences and sign copies of his new book about Van Alstyne. For every book he sells at this event he’ll donate $5 back to the Friends of the Library. Punch and baked goods will be served.

New books continue to arrive and one of those is the Guinness World Records 2014. Do you know what it takes to get in the book? First, really study this book so you can figure out which record you’d like to set. Then go to the company’s web site and use the application form. Be sure to tell them a lot about your planned efforts and get this application in about four weeks before you plan to attempt to set a record. If they like your idea they’ll contact you with the official guidelines. Use the guidelines to gather the evidence and send it to them. Then wait for the results. Most of us love trivia; that’s why game shows are so popular. Here are some of the facts revealed in this edition.
