Van Alstyne Library News & Notes

Calling All Anime Fans! Get your favorite character costume ready and come to our anime convention on May 30 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be fun anime games, a costume contest, chopsticks class, Soul Eater hunt, rice eating contest, manga drawing contest, and anime movies. Bring your own Pokemon cards for games. All ages are welcome, but if you are 12 or under you need to bring an adult. Admission is free. Concessions are available for a small fee.

The Van Alstyne Community Center is ready for occupancy, which means Friends of the Library Monthly Breakfast is coming back. Join us the first Saturday each month starting June 7 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. for a hot breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits, juice and coffee for only $4.00. You will love the food and the good company.

If you have not been by the library to pick up a copy of our summer calendar be sure to take a look at our web page. Here are a few of the highlights:

Summer Reading for Children (ages 3-12) – registration begins June 2. Reading begins June 9. Set a goal and pick up a log sheet when you register your child. When the child reaches the goal s/he gets a bag of prizes.

Teen Reading Contest – Reading begins June 9. Check out a book from our library’s juvenile or young adult collection. After reading, return it and we can add the book to your chart. The one who reads the most during the summer wins a gift card to a book store.

Adult Reading Contest – Reading begins June 9. Borrow a book from our young adult or adult collection. After reading, complete a short review of the book on our contest entry form. You will be entered into a drawing for one of several prizes.

New materials are on the shelf and ready for you to enjoy on your vacation travels.
