This Friday we begin our Friday Family Fun nights. Join us at the library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a free night out with your family and friends. There will be board games and a PG-rated movie. Bring your own snacks and light beverages. Play one of our games or bring your own.

It was great to see so many of you and your children at our first Monday morning summer event. Sandy the Puppeteer performed “Goldyrocks and the Dinosaur,” teaching us all it can be great fun to take a classic story and make it your own. Join us next Monday at 10:30 a.m. for “Minute to Win It!” featuring Master of Ceremonies Ben George and his team of Teen Council volunteers.

Only one of our summer events requires pre-registration. The Lowes “Build It!” will be here on July 28 and there are a limited number of spaces. Please contact the library at 903-482-5991to save your child a spot in “builders row.”

Thanks to the Friends of the Library for their hard work in bringing back our monthly breakfast. Also thanks to all of you who came out to enjoy a fresh hot breakfast and support our library. Next month’s breakfast will be on July 5 and will kick off our annual car show. Here are a few of the details:

— Register by July 2 for only $20 (per car) - pick up a form at the library or call Bob Bishop at 903-815-8788.

— Register day of the show at the Van Alstyne Community Center for $25 (per car).

— Breakfast and a t-shirt are included in your registration fee. (first 80 entries)

— Awards will be presented for Best Original and Modified: Car and Truck, Best of Show: 1944 and below, 1945-1974, and 1975 and above.

In addition to seeing the beautiful cars you can rock out to the sounds of Ned Spencer, Elvis impersonator. I hear he put on a great performance at the car show of Scout Troup 44.

While you are at the library for your car registration form pick up a good book to read. New titles on the shelf include:

The Chalice by Nancy Bilyeau (sequel to The Crown, which we also own)

Falling for Autumn by Heather Wood Topham

Toxic Girl by Chantal Fernando

Sky Zone by Creston Mapes

Storming the Black Ice by Don Brown

China Dolls by Lisa See

Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King

Finding Me by Michelle Knight

Hope to see you around the Van Alstyne Public Library.
