POTTSBORO — Hannah Fernandez scored 12 points as Van Alstyne defeated Denison, 40-32, to open the Pottsboro Tournament on Thursday.
Carleigh Simmons added nine points and five steals, Maddie Horn chipped in five points, 11 rebounds and four assists and Emma Moreno scored five points for Van Alstyne.
Jamiah Ballard scored 10 points to lead Denison (0-2) while Sahara Crawford added six points and Dara Williams had four points. The Lady Jackets will play Pottsboro today at noon in tourney action.
Later in the day Decatur defeated Van Alstyne, 58-30. Moreno scored nine points, Ashley Burts added six points and Fernandez finished with five points for the Lady Panthers (5-5), who face Whitesboro today at 10:30 a.m. as the tournament continues.
Whitesboro 53, Pilot Point 42
POTTSBORO — Kristen McCanlies scored 20 points as Whitesboro opened play at the Pottsboro Tournament with a victory against Pilot Point on Thursday.
Kristen Phelps added 13 points and Alexus Vanlandingham chipped in eight points for Whitesboro (3-1), which plays Van Alstyne at 10:30 a.m. today as tournament action continues.
Allison Ray led Pilot Point with 17 points.
Decatur 66, Pottsboro 54
POTTSBORO — Pippen Vier scored 12 points for Pottsboro but Decatur defeated the Lady Cardinals on the opening day of the Pottsboro Tournament on Thursday.
Hannah Varner and Rani Elder each added 10 points, Lindsey Evans finished with nine points and Justus Malone chipped in seven points for Pottsboro (6-3), which faces Denison today at noon as tournament action continues.
Howe 62, Chico 24
SLIDELL — Riley Harvey had 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals as Howe defeated Chico on the first day of the Slidell Tournament.
Alissa Smith scored 11 points, Jessi Akins added nine points, Darci Foster chipped in seven points, Makenzie Duffie finished with five points and nine rebounds for Howe (1-2), which faces either Slidell or Collinsville at 4 p.m. today in tournament play.
Trenton 63, CHANT 56
TRENTON — Lane Henderson had 25 points and 12 rebounds as Trenton opened its tournament with a victory against CHANT on Thursday.
Bailey Burks added 13 points and seven rebounds, Tyler Connelly finished with 11 points and seven rebounds and J.J. Foreman and Cody Huff chipped in six points apiece for Trenton (3-0), which faces Mineola and Chisholm Trail today as tournament play continues.
