After their disappointing loss to S&S, the Howe Bulldogs bounced back in a big way by routing Whitewright 17-2 at home on April 1.
Garrett Fulenchek struck out 13 Tiger batters, while keeping up with the hits was a all-night task. The Bulldogs’ scoreboard totals looked like a gas pump readout as they scored in every inning of the run-rule contest.
Howe scored nine runs in the first, collecting seven hits and taking advantage of three Tiger errors. Whitewright booted the ball seven times in the game, greasing the skids for Howe’s offense.
The Bulldogs added six more runs in the second inning with back-to-back doubles with Fulenchek and Quinton Harris providing the key hits.
In the top of the fourth inning, Fulenchek must have been channeling his Whack-A-Mole talents as he plunked four consecutive Whitewright batters before Perry Mason collected the only Tiger hit of the game.
Howe will host Tom Bean Friday, looking to maintain its one-game lead over Pottsboro in the District 11-2A chase.
