If all the ladies recruited for the Austin College volleyball team bring the energy of Van Alstyne’s Rebecca Franklin coach Ed Garza will have a powerhouse on the Sherman campus.
Franklin, the Lady Panthers’ emotional leader for the past four years, will continue her volleyball career with the Lady Kangaroos as she signed this week.
Interest from schools such as Southwestern University, LeTourneau and Newman University were weighed but in the end, Austin College was the best fit for Franklin.
“I had met coach Garza through my experiences in club volleyball and I know playing for him will be exciting,” Franklin said.
She also had the opportunity to meet several of the other incoming players and stated she feels that they mesh pretty well together. Franklin will carry a double-major in college with computer science and mathematics as her course of study.
“During my visit and after looking over all of the choices, I liked the academic atmosphere as well as the athletic purpose of the school.” Franklin said.
Van Alstyne’s loss of the dynamic young leader is Austin College’s gain.
