Girls Basketball Roundup — Pottsboro beats Van Alstyne

VAN ALSTYNE — Lindsey Evans had 11 points and six rebounds as Pottsboro edged Van Alstyne, 28-27, in the season-opener for the Lady Cardinals on Friday night.

Justus Malone added six points and six rebounds and Tatum Marburger chipped in five points and three assists for Pottsboro (1-0), which is scheduled to host Gunter on Tuesday night.

Emma Moreno and Allison Hensley each scored six points to lead Van Alstyne (1-1).

Sam Rayburn 43, Ector 16

ECTOR — Heather Mason had 18 points, 15 rebounds and four assists as Sam Rayburn opened its season with a victory against Ector.

Ashley Vance added seven points, three steals and two assists, Kaylee Waldrop chipped in five points, nine rebounds and three blocks, Courtney Clark scored five points and Keely Spence finished with four points and three assists for Sam Rayburn (1-0), which hosts Tom Bean on Tuesday night.

Trenton 34, Savoy 22

SAVOY — Jordan Withrow scored 11 points to lead Trenton to a season-opening victory against Savoy on Saturday.

Bria Green added 10 points and Elizabeth Prater chipped in seven points for Trenton (1-0), which plays at Bells on Tuesday night.

Hannah White had eight points and six rebounds while Lindsey Stone added eight points and five rebounds for Savoy.

Texoma Christian 44, Aubrey 33

Hannah Bentsen had 22 points and 10 rebounds as Texoma Christian defeated Aubrey.

Haylie Ross added nine points and six rebounds, Lillie Monk chipped in seven points and five assists and Tori Powers handed out five assists for Texoma Christian (2-0), which hosts Paris on Tuesday night.

Yantis 44, W’wright 32

WHITEWRIGHT — Sydney Brummett had eight points and Anna Shope scored seven in Whitewright’s season-opening loss to Yantis.

Morgan Lewis, Madi Williams and Blare Wornhor added four points each for Whitewright (0-1), which outscored Yantis, 17-11, in the second half.

Cooper 51, S&S 47

LEONARD — Jessika Dyke scored 23 points but the Lady Rams’ comeback effort fell just short in S&S’ season-opening loss against Cooper.

Britney Williams added nine points, Kirsten Marshall chipped in eight points and Sarah Marshall totaled four points for S&S (0-1), which hosts Valley View on Tuesday night.
