Howe coach departs
Howe coach Danny Barber will be leaving the school in April in order to participate in spring football drills at his new coaching assignment, Oak Ridge High School in the Conroe ISD.
Barber was the defensive coordinator for the Bulldogs, coming to the school after working with Howe athletic director and head football coach Zack Hudson at Weimar. Prior to that, he had spent seven seasons at Navasota.
Barber, who spent just one season with the Bulldogs, expressed a desire to go to a larger school and he got that opportunity with the Class 6A War Eagles, a school with an enrollment of almost 3,100 students.
“I really enjoyed my season here at Howe, the kids are great, we got tremendous support from the administration and community. I just felt like I had to take advantage of the opportunity when it was presented,” said Barber.
Oak Ridge finished second in District 14-5A play last season and head coach Dereck Rush will be starting his third season in Conroe after building a successful program at John Tyler High School.
