The Lady Panthers traveled to Gunter on Oct. 29 only to lose their final regular season match to the Lady Tigers.
The loss leaves Van Alstyne and Farmersville tied for the final playoff spot from District 12-2A, and those two teams will meet Friday, Nov. 1 at 4:30 p.m. at Anna High School. The winner will play Callisburg, winner of District 11-2A, in the opening round of the 2013 UIL playoffs.
Callisburg, the Lady Panthers’ potential playoff foe, was ranked 13th last week and they finished the regular season unbeaten in District 11-2A play. The Lady Wildcats have a season record of 32-4.
Van Alstyne split its two matches with Farmersville this season, each team winning on its home court in four sets.
At Van Alstyne on September 17th, the Lady Panthers came back from a first set loss to win the next three to take the match.
After dropping a thrilling first set in Farmersville on October 11th, Van Alstyne came back to square the match with a 25-20 win in the second set.
The length on the front line of Farmersville prevailed over the next two sets and 6-1 Haven Neal and 5-11 Airanna Brooks pushed the Lady Farmers to the win.
The two teams will break that tie Friday afternoon in Anna.
In the loss to Gunter, Rebecca Franklin tallied seven kills and Jaden England added six to one of the state’s top-ranked Class 2A teams. Molly McQuirk had 15 assists and Shelby Litzkow had nine digs in the match.
