The Lone Star Hoops Camp made its 13th visit to Howe High School this past week, and 115 area boys and girls took advantage of 32 hours of basketball instruction to improve their game.
Lone Star Hoops was started by Coach Jan Jernberg in 1988 and has grown in attendance each year.
Coaches’ Tim Rose and Derek Lands of Howe were on hand to greet the 2013 campers on Monday as the camp began its four-day run.
Coach Jeff Keener of Friendswood High School, Chris Arledge, girls coach at Paris North Lamar, and Coach Shawn Dalbert of the state champion Roxton Lions, were part of the instructor crew at Howe. Howe coaches Kailey Hayward, Allison Parkes, and Andi Lands joined them.
Former Howe players Steven Richardson, Madison Wilson and Hannah Debner were also on the 2013 staff.
Lone Star Hoops uses the “circuit-training” effect in their drills, stressing technique and fundamentals geared to the age and skill level of the various groups.
