The weak cool front which improved playing conditions in Howe on Friday had long since vanished the next day as the Panthers held their annual Blue-White scrimmage at Panther Stadium.
The artificial turf was cooking as the 2013 Panther team scrimmaged before a large, supportive crowd.
The purpose of the event was to get some game-type action for the players and settle match-up questions for the staff.
“We will go in and look at the film and make some changes based on today’s performance,” said Head Coach Mikeal Miller after the final whistle.
The staff will be impressed by an early play that saw DeAngelo Alexander level a reciver after a catch in the right flat. Alexander also caught a pass for good yardage late in the scrimmage.
The line play of Jeff Dietz, Joseph Chisenhall, Josh Willingham and Seth Caraway was impressive as well.
Several players were held out of the scrimmage. Sophomore quarterback Will Jones was one of those on the sidelines, as was star lineman Connor Mayes.
After the scrimmage, players and fans were treated to an ice cream and watermelon cool down courtesy of the Van Alstyne Athletic Booster club and Landmark Bank.
The Panthers will scrimmage Gainesville on Aug. 17.
