“The Van Alstyne Panther sixth grade 7-on-7 football team ended its season Friday night in Celina with two more wins to complete its quest for an undefeated season.
Have you heard the old saying, “Defense wins Championships?” It definitely held true with this team as they allowed only 159 points to their opponents but scored 433 points during the 12-game season.
After the team celebrated the unbeaten campaign by drenching Coach Kevin Keathly with water, he said, “I am so fortunate to have worked with such a great group of boys. They worked very hard this year. I am excited to see what next year has in store for us and to see these boys grow up to play under those Friday Night Lights.”
Chris Hickson, a former Panther football player that coached these boys in tackle football and is now the regional director of the North Texas 7-on-7 Football League added his own comments following the celebration.
“I’m extremely proud of these boys and what they have accomplished this Spring season,” said Hickson. “They have come a very long way in all aspects of the game of football in a short time. They are the only team out of 16 this spring season that went undefeated (12-0) and I believe this momentum will carry over into the fall football season. I look for them to make a run at the district championship this fall.”
The team sent out a big “thank you” to all the friends and family that came to watch the team every week and provided invaluable support throughout the season.
