Nearly 40 die-hard Van Alstyne football fans showed up at Panther Stadium Monday morning to welcome the team on the first day of Fall practice.

Treated to coffee, orange juice and donuts, the fans cheered the team onto the turf for the first of two workouts to be held on each day of the preseason practice sessions.

Coach Mikeal Miller and his staff had the team on the field promptly at 7:30 a.m., with the team in helmets and shorts for the first four days of drills, all in accordance with University Interscholastic League rules.

Nearly 80 players reported to the first day of practice, eager to wash away the disappointments of last season and get the new year off to a positive start. The team will don pads on Friday to start the serious work, and the annual Blue-White scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday, August 10.

The Van Alstyne Athletic Booster Club has planned an ice cream and watermelon social to follow the Saturday scrimmage.
