After not qualifying in Howe’s first powerlifting meet of the season in Anna, Bulldog lifter Joaquin Lopez finished first in the 165-pound weight class in Whitesboro on Jan. 25.
Lopez totaled 1,255 pounds in his three events to get the season’s first win for an area lifter. Sheldon Parkman,who also failed to qualify at Anna, lifted 1,025 pounds to finish second in the 242-pound class.
The Howe boys finished seventh out of 21 schools which participated in the meet.
On Jan. 23, Jessica Doty of Howe finished third in the 165-pound class with a total lift of 465 pounds.
The Howe girls’ next meet is on Feb. 6 at S&S High School in Sadler, while the Howe boys lift at S&S on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Van Alstyne did not participate in the Whitesboro meet but will join Howe at the S&S event.
