Season Preview: A Familial Feel to VAHS Cross Country Team

Although short on numbers, the 2013 Van Alstyne cross country team is long on talent and pretty good in the brother-sister combos, as well.

Led by state qualifiers from last season, Evan and Molly McQuirk, the Panther squad has added freshmen Hannah and Jacob Taylor to the mix, also.

Coach Russell Best has scheduled six tune-up meets prior to the October 23, District 12-2A meet in Celina.

Both McQuirks will miss some of these meets to participate in collegiate invitationals and, in Evan’s case, check out some college programs.

Madison Reno and Brett Broussard will also compete for the Panther team that opens the season on Sept. 7 at the Shade Tree Run at Muenster Lake.

Yes, I know, football’s king and volleyball is in full swing right now, but if you get a chance to check out these guys and gals, let’s do it. All of the meets leading into the district event are held on Saturday mornings, usually at around 8 a.m.
