More than 50 boys showed up Monday for the opening day of the 2013 Van Alstyne Summer Pride program, and that number should increase throughout the six-week run.
Van Alstyne Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Mikeal Miller and Matt Braddock from Van Alstyne Fitness lead the athletes through the first session of conditioning work.
The workouts remained just as intense on Tuesday as approximately 20 Lady Panther athletes joined the Summer Pride program.
Under the guidance of girls athletic coordinator Jack Wiley, coaches Miranda Sun and Kristi Servati, along with former Panther standout Chance Grayson, the girls started out with agility drills on the turf at Panther Stadium. Lady Panther athletes will continue their summer pride work on Tuesday and Thursdays for the six-week run.
In a related football note, Van Alstyne’s Alex Cole has been selected to fill the vacancy on the East squad for the Oil Bowl game to be played Saturday in Wichita Falls. Cole takes the spot of fellow Panther Alex Mayes who had to report to the University of Minnesota where he will continue his football career.
