The seventh grade Panther football team started its game on Sept. 26 on a high note with a turnover on the opening kickoff to Caddo Mills. The turnover resulted in a touchdown drive for the Panthers but the team couldn’t sustain the lead as Caddo Mills beat the Panthers, 14-6.

“ [I] wanted to recognize a couple of seventh grade kids from White Team that played against Caddo Mills,” said coach Kenny Lamb. “I thought Reggie Smith played a very good game both as an offensive lineman and also on the defensive front line. Another one of the seventh grade White Team players who is getting better each and every week is Luke Fontenot. These kids continue to work hard and are improving so much.”

“The Blue Team game got off to a great start with us recovering the opening kickoff,” continued Lamb. “We were able to put together a very good drive. The blocking of Jesse Love and Sawyer Callies allowed us to be able to score on a very good run by Boone Bonnema. Because of some injuries we had some kids have to play a couple of position they had not worked at. I thought Austin Moore played very well on defense.

“It was a tough loss,” added Lamb. “We had numerous opportunities to score. We faced another very good running back from Caddo Mills. I have told the kids we have to get better at fundamentals of blocking, tackling, throwing, catching, and kicking. These young men continue to be very good at listening to what the coaches are telling them. We are very excited about playing Commerce on Thursday. We have had the best week of practice so far this season.”
