The Lady Panthers came back from a big first-quarter deficit in their Monday morning game against Valley View only to see their hard work go for naught as the Lady Eagles came away with a 42-37 win.

The visitors got scoring from nine different players in this non-district tilt - scoring often and early. Valley View took a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Van Alstyne came back in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 20-9 as Maddie Horn turned up the offensive heat. Horn scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second quarter and the teams went to the break with Valley View up by just two.

A hoop and some harm by Horn gave Van Alstyne its first lead of the contest at 31-30 with just over a minute left in the third quarter.

The Lady Eagles went on a scoring run to open the final frame, however, and a 3-point bucket gave them a lead they never relinquished. Two free throws by Emma Moreno closed out the contest as the Lady Panthers saw their season record drop to 10-10.

The Lady Panthers host Farmersville on Friday in a critical District 12-2A contest.
