Just about one week before the District 12-2A tournament Van Alstyne tennis is peaking at the proper time.

The team had a successful run at the Princeton Tournament over the March 22 weekend with three first-place finishes for the squad.

Senior Zach Davis came back from a 2-6 deficit to defeat a state tournament competitor from Blue Ridge 8-6 in the boys singles finals.

The mixed doubles team of Blake Linnebur and Lexie Lauerhahs continued its winning streak, sweeping through the tournament for the team’s third consecutive finals win of the season.

Callie Dunkerson lost to a tough opponent from Bonham and placed fourth in girls singles.

In other action, Jacob Williams placed fourth in boys singles and Jacob Rettimeir and Mike Case won a 22-point tie-breaker to advance to the finals of the consolation bracket in boys doubles. They lost a tie-breaker to finish second in the bracket.

Sydney Gade, Haley Graham, Reagan Richards and Kristen Head all played well and saw some success.

The district tournament will be held on the Princeton High School courts on April 2, 3 and 4.
